One of Alabama's best flower showpieces is the colorful rhododendron.

The deepest gorge in the eastern United States starts here and runs about 35 miles southwest. It is 700 feet deep in some portions and has a spectacular drive along the rim with many scenic overlooks. It contains the only river in the country which forms and flows on top of a mountain.
