The Kansas State Capitol is 304 feet high. The architecture is French Renaissance of native limestone from Geary and Chase Counties. Kansas became the 34th state in 1861.

Tornado in Lyon County, Kansas. TORNADO (sp. tomar, "to turn") violent whirling wind. Commonly known as a twister, a tornado can be from a few meters to a kilomter wide. Winds can exceed 300 mph.



Characters represented in L. Frank Baum's Story - "The Wizard of Oz" which was written in 1900.
The Seward County Museum features Dorothy's house and three of the characters of the movie -
the scarecrow, the tin man and the cowardly lion. The museum is located in Liberal, Kansas.
