That’ll Never Happen No More

It’s Sunday again, so soon; time for some music. But first, an announcement, especially to local readers—in case you haven’t been caught in the frenzy of our media blitz, Eberle & I will be performing on Saturday—the coming Saturday, the 19th—at the Alpine Playhouse in McCall. The performance will be a benefit for the Alpine & will help with the restoration of their wonderful old velvet theater seats. The show begins at 7:30 p.m., & the donation asked at the door is a mere $5—five bucks! How can you miss that? Even you more distant folks might want to consider that after figuring in plane or train fare it’s still probably cheaper than seeing Springsteen or the Stones.

The song list is looking like this:

Mean Old Bedbug Blues: guitar - kazoo
Candy Man: guitar (solo)
Death Don’t Have No Mercy: guitar - flute
Love in Vain: banjo (solo)
Matchbox Blues: banjo – banjo uke
Two White Horses: banjo – melodica
Katie Mae: guitar (solo)
Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child: banjo - flute
Shake Sugaree: banjo – kazoo

Intermission (& there are always fantastic cookies at the Alpine—can you say that about your typical neighborhood nightclub? I think not!)

St. James Infirmary: guitar - flute
That’ll Never Happen No More: guitar (solo)
See See Rider: guitar (solo - I do the kinder, gentler Mississippi John Hurt "See See Rider")
Little Red Rooster: banjo – slide whistle
Come On In My Kitchen: banjo - melodica
Come Back Baby: guitar (solo)
Peavine Blues: guitar – melodica
Green Green Rocky Road: guitar – flute

OK, what follows is a preview for the folks who can’t make it—an old Blind Blake song that was also done in uproarious fashion by Dave Van Ronk—“That’ll Never Happen No More.” I'm not Blind Blake (or Van Ronk), so I'm not trying to imitate them
—just having some fun.

This has been a busy time around these parts—not sure if I’ll be posting on Monday or not. Enjoy your Sunday everyone!
