A note I made to myself on the back of this postcard indicates that I bought this card when I was in Des Moines on April 4, 1999. Too bad I didn't remember to note the date on all of these personal postcards that I have been posting.

Iowa's Loess Hills
This unique landscape embraces the eastern flank of the Missouri River valley, in Monona and Harrison Counties. Hidden within this deep loess soil is a rich collection of fossils and archaeological artifacts. While much of the rest of the Midwest has been converted to cropland, extensive areas of the Loess Hills have remained in praire and woodland, communities that contain rich and rare mixtures of native species.

Within Iowa's realm is a quarter of our nation's best farmland, producing a tenth of America's entire food supply.

This magnificent gaming vessel is a 1920's styled paddle wheel replica measuring 228 feet long and 46 feet wide, and holds 1,200 passengers and crew. It features over 900 gaming positions on three enclosed decks, with a covered observation deck for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful sights along the banks of the Missouri River.
