Behind the scenes of Devin Townsend's Deconstruction. Devin says "This is a record I have been working up to for some time, and while doing it, I realize that not only am I in control of it (totally) but that this newfound control allows me to take it to places I would have never been able to a decade ago. I pretty much believe that this will be one of our finest hours, and although there is some funny moments, it's a pretty 'pointed' record (if ya know what I mean)...

Anyways, any stuff you hear on these clips are either demos with drum machine, scratch vocals and demo guitars etc... but at least it illustrates the process in the beginning."

[Video] Light Years Away - Joe Satriani

Satriani's 14th studio album, Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards, was produced and recorded by Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Metallica) and Satriani. Joe is joined once again by veteran bandmate Jeff Campitelli on drums, and newcomers, keyboardist Mike Keneally (Frank Zappa, Steve Vai) and bassist Allen Whitman (Mermen) also adding to the sound. The first single from the album was Light Years Away.

I see far to many players who dont get what it is to 'jam'. This is unfortunate because its one of the most enjoyable part of playing the guitar.

What I love about this video that it very literally shows you what an enjoyable thing it is to 'interact' with other players. You dont have to go to the extent of what you see at 4:50mins, the point Im making is to listen to what your mate is playing and interact. I always appreciate a cover with a twist and even more so when its a medley.

Freddie has done a great job putting this mammoth medley together, no stops, smooth transitions and awesome vocal harmonies to top it all off.

'Ghost Busters' Gone Rock

I thought I'd continue the metal spin on cool movie/tv themes from last post, this one is quite a laugh! Not to say its bad, its actually really good (unlike many of the others out there.)

Its not so much a metal cover as a 80's / hard rock / shred / funk version! Enjoy :)

Metal guitar Macgyer cover!

Im a Macgyer fan from way back so when I saw the title of this video I was very edgy... I'd hate to see someone slaughter such a great theme. 'It could be great, or it could be a travesty', nervously I hit play... Im glad to say folks 'we have a winner'. Great cover!

So Daggy... Its Cool

Staying on the quest for amazing fingerstyle players from last post, today sees us land in the Netherlands to hear Igor Presnyakov. Igor has a huge collection fingerstyle covers on his youtube that I highly recommend.

For what he lacks in the quality camcorder department he makes up in his playing. Groove spiced arrangements of some cool songs both old and new. From Beethoven to Michael Jackson to Rage Against The Machine Igor sure covers the bases!

The video below comes with a personal confession, I have a soft spot for this daggy old electro pop song 'popcorn'. After indecision on which of his great videos to post I couldnt help but go with my heart! Pop it up yo :)
